Coach Information
Welcome to the 2012 State Large Group Contest at Dubuque Senior High School.

Dubuque Senior is excited to be hosting State Contest this year.  We hope to run a smooth contest day that provides students the best
opportunity for success and fun.  If you have questions, feel free to contact
Aaron Dean at adean@dubuque.k12.ia.us
General Information
-  Please check in at the information table inside the Nora Gym entrance when you arrive.  If you have any changes to report, please do that when
you arrive.

-  Bring THREE comment sheets for each entry performing on Saturday.  If you forget or lose comment sheets, you may purchase new ones in the
contest headquarters (the main office) for a minimal fee.

-  Before leaving the contest, please check out in our contest headquarters (the main office).  You will receive your comment sheets for all events –
be sure you have all of your comment sheets.  PLEASE DO NOT COME TO PICK UP YOUR MATERIALS UNTIL ALL OF YOUR RATINGS HAVE
BEEN POSTED IN THE GYM.  If your ratings have not been posted, we will NOT have your materials ready to go.

-  According to the December 2011 SWIFT: “Coaches and performers are asked to remember that noise in the hallway near a performance center
can be very distracting for the group or individual performing.  This problem can be solved with all of us working together and discussing it with our
students before the contest day.”

- A medical professional will be available throughout the day

Drop-Off/Parking Instructions:
-  Plan to drop students/props/boxes/sets off outside the entrance to the Nora Gym (see a marked map on our website: http://www.
dubuqueseniordrama.com/2012StateLGSchoolMap.html) Buses will be able to pull up to the steps leading directly up to the Nora Gym.

-  The best way to reach the steps leading to the Nora Gym is to take Clarke Drive, turning right onto the small drive into the parking lot. Buses
waiting to unload students may pull to the right side of this small drive until access is clear

-  The Nora Gym Entrance will be the main entrance used for contest. Coaches will be able to check-in their teams at this entrance.

-  After unloading buses, buses should park at the bottom of the parking lot (between the baseball and football fields.

-  Small vehicles for teams and audience members may park in the guest parking spots designated below.

-
Please do NOT use the Front Entrance (on Clarke Drive) or the cafeteria entrance to unload your students and props. This is a busy
street and we want to keep everyone safe!  We will have these doors locked throughout the contest date.  Everyone should enter through the Nora
Gym entrance

Team Headquarters
-  The Nora Gym will be team headquarters for all schools.  Please unload your equipment and store in the gym.

-  Ratings will also be posted on both ends of the Nora Gym throughout the day.

- If you need risers for Readers Theatre performances, please contact Aaron Dean at adean@dubuque.k12.ia.us

- It is recommended that you bring your own technological equipment for categories like Short Film, Radio Broadcasting, etc. just in case your CD's,
DVD's etc. are not compatible with our equipment.  You may store any expensive equipment in the contest headquarters (main office)

Navigation
-  Dubuque Senior is a beautiful castle – but it can be tricky to maneuver around until you get the hang of it.  We will have lots of signs posted
around the building to help students, coaches, and audience members.  In addition, we will have volunteers posted throughout the building to help
assist.  However, it is suggested you arrive at your performance centers early to ensure you know the path.  A map of the building with rooms
marked can be found on our website: http://www.dubuqueseniordrama.com/2012StateLGSchoolMap.html
You can also print off a PDF or save a JPEG file to include in your materials you provide to your students prior to contest.  We strongly suggest you
take advantage of this opportunity!  It will make your day much easier!

Food
-  Dubuque Senior will be offering breakfast, lunch and concessions all day in our cafeteria.  To check out the menu, visit us online at: http://www.

support our school.

Suggested Donation
-  Please inform your parents and potential audience members about the $3.00 suggested donation.  We believe (and the IHSSA believes) that our
performances are worth every penny.  In addition, programs will be on sale for $1.00 for patrons.

-  Programs will be not given out to teams, so you will want to distribute schedule information to your students prior to the event.  BE SURE TO
INFORM YOUR PARENTS ABOUT YOUR SCHOOL CODE!

Photography and Video Recording
-  No photography or video recording is allowed without permission from the IHSSA State Office.  Proof of permission is required!

- Please inform your parents of this rule as well!

Schedule
-  Please remind your performers and parents to be early to the performance centers.  Routinely check to see if a performance center is running
ahead or behind.

-  It is our goal to ensure that we have a smooth contest day, and performance centers will continue to run even if it is ahead of schedule.  Be sure
your parents know to arrive early so they will not miss a performance.  This will save a lot of headaches on everyone’s part!

- If there is a problem with the schedule (conflicts, a special request that was forgotten) please email Aaron Dean at adean@dubuque.k12.ia.us

- Remember, we cannot honor any special request that is not previously approved by the State Office

Weather
-  In case of inclement weather delays, you may check out our website: http://www.dubuqueseniordrama.com/2012StateLargeGroup.html; the IHSSA
website: www.ihssa.org; or watch KWWL, KCRG, KGAN or Cumulus Radio Stations.

Warmup Rooms
-  Warm-up Rooms will be available throughout the building (listed on the school map provided in programs, or on our website: http://www.
dubuqueseniordrama.com/2012StateLGSchoolMap.html.

-  Please limit your time in the warm-up rooms – other groups may be waiting.  Our goal is to have enough warm-up spaces to keep the noise level
down in the hallways.  Please be respectful of the performances going on around you.

Coaches Lounge
-  The Dubuque Senior Teacher’s Lounge (located in the Cafeteria) will serve as a lounge for coaches and bus drivers.  Coffee and rolls will be
complimentary in this lounge.
